Dear Parents, It is great that the season has suddenly changed and we are no longer having those awful 100 degree days. We welcome the cool fall weather and are once again able to enjoy our outside time without being too hot! We have a busy month planned for October with many special upcoming activities. This month will have school portraits, a Pumpkin Patch field trip, and a Halloween Parade and Party. Our September units included learning about families, friends, communities and fire safety. The children loved Matt Scola’s circle time. Matt, Charlie’s dad, talked about being a fireman and how to be safe around fire. The children were in awe of him as he demonstrated the best way to not get hurt in emergency situations. He put on his fire helmet and mask and told the children to not be afraid if they saw a fireman coming into their home in an emergency. He told them to go to a fireman for help. The children asked questions and listened carefully to his presentation. Thanks Matt for once again doing a wonderful job for the children at ABC!! The ABC children have now settled into their new school year and they are actively making friends and enjoying their school day. This year we have a wonderful group of children that bring enthusiasm and love to their daily school environment. We feel so fortunate to be able to teach, guide, and love these little people on their life journey. Our Units of Study: October 5-9 Fall Harvest October 12-16 Five Senses October 19-30 Halloween

Shooting Stars will be at ABC Tuesday, October 6th and Wednesday, October 7th to take our school pictures. Please pick up your picture form on top of the cubbies. These forms will tell you what day your child will have their picture taken so that you can dress your child appropriately. Pictures will be taken in the morning from 9:00am until noon. Our afternoon students will have their pictures taken on Tuesday, October 6th, between 1:30 and 3:00. If your child will be at school in “fancy” clothing, please feel free to bring an extra set of play clothes and we will change your child after the picture is taken. Shooting Stars will have our pictures back to us within two to three weeks so that you can choose the pose that you like. Once they have all the information, we should be receiving the picture packets within three to four weeks. This will give you time to use these precious keepsake as holiday gifts. Parent Party Once again we had a great parent party. At least fifty family members showed up to meet and greet each other. This event always results in new friendships and a relaxed environment where parents can enjoy others. ABC is so thankful once again to the Blackwell family (Augustus’ parents), for providing two cases of wine for this party. Not only did they bring the wine for the parent party, they generously donated a case of wine to the ABC teachers. Thank you so much for your contributions Gary and Dita!! We appreciate you more than you know! I also want to thank all of the parents who brought wine and beer. We had plenty of beverages to go around and everyone had a good time. The food was delicious because we purchased it from our favorite local deli, Comforts. Thank you to all the parents who managed to find childcare so that they could come and spend time with staff and other parents. This year every single staff member from ABC attended the party, so fun was had by all. Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Rachel’s Rabbits, Lauren’s Lions, and Melissa’s Mice will have the opportunity to go to the Nicasio Pumpkin Patch with their teachers once again this year! They will be making the trip on Friday, October 23rd. Every year this is an exciting adventure for our older students and they really look forward to it. We will need parent drivers for this field trip. If you are able to drive for this field trip, please see Rachel. Parents that drive must have car insurance and be able to take at least two to three children with car seats. The field trip children will be leaving the school around 9:45am. We will return for lunch at ABC around 11:45am. We will have about 30 children attending this fun event, so we will need at least seven or eight parent drivers. All participants must pay the $10 fee so that they can enter the pumpkin patch and take home a pumpkin. Please give this admission fee to Rachel. We will not be going into the jumpy this year, but we will be participating in the hay ride and petting zoo activities. The morning of the field trip, parents must leave their child’s car seat at ABC if the child will be traveling in someone’s vehicle. Please have your child’s name on their car seat. We will have permission slips for each child. Please let a teacher know if you do not want your child to attend this school event.
Share Days at ABC The children adore their special share days at ABC, so we have decided to add another day of sharing into our program. Starting in October, we will have sharing on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Please watch for the new share day list to go up in the next week. Children should only bring special items from home on their share days! Please do not put toys into your child’s cubby if it is not their share day. This causes hurt feelings and the chance that the toy may get lost. Extra Clothes at ABC We now have 70 families that attend ABC. Our extra clothing bins are brimming with too many clothes. Each child at ABC should have one extra outfit on hand. If you have more than one change of clothes here, we will be sending the extra items home with you. When your extra clothing is used, we will send home a note asking for it to be replaced so that you always know your child’s extra clothing status. Please honor this rule, as our space is limited. Thanks! Snack Calendar Our morning families are bringing snack every day and we appreciate that so much. We also have an afternoon snack calendar posted for afternoon snack. Children that are using our program from 1:30 to 5:30 should be signing up to bring snack on this calendar. We would love to have all our ABC families pitching in with our daily snacks. Thanks for your help with this. Small Groups Please remember that our morning program has small group each day from 12:30 until 1:00. This is a very special time in the day for your child. They sit with their small group and learn age appropriate things. Each day their teacher plans an activity that the children enjoy and look forward to. When your child is picked up early, they miss out on important quality time with their small group teacher. I know that parking is difficult, but remember that from 1:00 until 1:15 you are not charged so that you have plenty of time to get to ABC and pick your child up. The small group teachers would appreciate your help with this issue. Marin Food Bank Each year ABC tries to fill at least two food barrels for the less fortunate in Marin. This agency provides food for low income seniors, severely ill individuals and families in need. A food barrel will be dropped off mid October and we are hoping that once again you can bring some canned items for this worthy cause. Thank you.
Enrichment Classes Many children have already enrolled in, and are enjoying the special classes that ABC offers. On Monday our new class, Flying Angels Gymnastics is a huge success. The children adore Steve Sassone, the teacher, and he consistently brings great props for the children to climb, jump on and tumble across. His class will be full with just a few more students enrolled. Please take the time to fill out his registration form by the cubbies if you are interested in this class. Joanne’s incredible Spanish class on Tuesdays is now enrolling for nine week sessions. Each child that attends her class learns to speak many Spanish words, sing songs, and play games in Spanish. Please enroll in this very fun and educational class if it is something you think your child would enjoy. On Wednesday we have a wonderful Yoga class taught by Hillary and Shelly. The children pose on their blue mats and have a ball becoming animals that stretch and bend. This class has only a few slots left and the children are always giggling and having fun with their special Yoga poses. On Wednesday, and Thursday afternoon’s Miss Meri comes to ABC with a fun music class. She brings a variety of instruments for the children and a guitar. She sings and dances with the children and they are always laughing and having fun. Please find her flyer and sign up for an afternoon class that your child will love. On Thursday, Jamaica teaches a fun music class with the children. She always comes prepared with musical instruments and new songs. The children enjoy Jamaica’s love and energy and they always want this class to go on and on. On Friday, Jamaica comes back to teach dance class. This class is filled with new and entertaining world music and moves. The children float with scarves, or dance with bells. They are joyful and engaged in each movement and costume. Both of Jamaica’s classes only have a few more slots, so if this is something you want your child to experience, please find her enrollment forms by the cubbies and sign your child up for these half hour classes.
If you are currently enrolled at ABC, please know that you are able to use the afternoons any day of the week. For example, if your child is enrolled on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and you have an appointment on Tuesday, you can always drop your child off at ABC after 1:30. This is a wonderful service that the school provides and it is only $8.00 an hour. If you use the school in the afternoons and you want to come an extra afternoon, the same rule applies. All you have to do is call the preschool and let them know your child will be attending on a day they are not normally enrolled in. We always have room in the afternoons for extra children to attend. Go grocery shopping or have lunch with a friend while your child has a blast at ABC!
During the last two weeks of October we like to decorate and carve pumpkins at ABC. Please bring in a pumpkin to decorate, but do not put your child’s name on it. We will decorate all the pumpkins that are brought to school, and if you bring in a pumpkin, then you will be able to choose one to take home with you before Halloween. On Friday, October 30th, we will walk downtown with the children for our annual Halloween Parade (weather permitting). All ABC students and parents are invited to join us on our parade. If your child does not attend school on Friday, we do ask that you leave ABC promptly after the parade. We are unable to provide chairs and room in the school for the extra children. Thanks! Our morning circle will begin at 9:30am on this day. Please arrive by 9:45, so that we can leave on time for our parade. We will leave the school at 10:00am and return by 10:30am. We will do “trick or treating” at some downtown stores that enjoy our annual parade. The children always have fun with their Halloween Parade, so please try to attend and don’t forget your cameras! Children are invited to wear their Halloween costume to school on Friday, October 30th. We do not allow masks or weapons as part of the costume. Please label all items that belong to your child. You may want to bring a change of clothes for children staying all day. We will have a Halloween Party with the children that have Friday as a regular school day. Each child will decorate a special Halloween bag, and children in regular attendance on Friday will play games and receive prizes. Every child that attends ABC will have a goody bag, so please remember to take your Halloween bags home when you pick up your child from school. We would appreciate if each family would bring some type of goodie for our Halloween bags during the week of October 19-23. We prefer limited candy and plenty of non-candy items, such as stickers, spider rings, plastic bugs etc. Thank you!!
A Big Thank You to: Barrett: puzzles, awards, and bagels for ABC. We also want to thank Barrett for reading the Pre-K instructions to the children on occasion. He enjoys sharing his reading skills with his classmates. Nicholas: puzzles and games for ABC. We also loved his homemade honey cake! Aatu: chocolate for the teachers Santino: homemade salsa for the teachers Marley: brownie bites for the teachers |
