Dear Parents, February was filled with hearts, flowers, laughter, and fun projects. We learned about Presidents, Dental Health, and Love! It doesn’t get much better than that. We appreciated the sunshine, and stayed warm and cozy inside during the many rain showers. Thank you so much for all the Valentine donations. When the children’s goody bags were taken home, they were brimming with fun Valentines, stickers, toys, and treats. Each year our parent base is so generous, and the staff and children all appreciate your continued thoughtfulness and support. This month we will be learning about Nutrition, The Body, St. Patrick’s Day, Spring, and Baby Animals. We have much to accomplish, but our incredible staff will educate, entertain, and enthrall the students with knowledge about each of our upcoming units.
Our February Units Are: Feb. 28 – March 4 Nutrition March 7-11 The Body March 14-18 St. Patrick’s Day March 21-25 Spring March 28- April 1 Baby Animals
Important Dates to Remember: March 1-11 Pre-K Conferences March 11 Book Orders Due April 6 Parent Committee Meeting 5:30-6:00pm April 25 ABC Closed for Easter
Pre-K Conferences The Pre-K Conference sign-up sheets are posted above the cubbies. If you have not already signed up for your conference, please do so as soon as possible. The conferences take about 30 minutes and are always an enjoyable experience. Rachael E. and Rachel W. have been spending quality time preparing for your conference, so please make sure you are available for this informative meeting. I am so proud of the incredible work the Pre-K teachers are putting into each conference. I have read the conferences and I am touched by the attention to detail each teacher has reflected on. Each child at ABC is loved and nurtured. The child’s social network, physical accomplishments, and fine motor skills are all assessed and reported on. I think the Pre-K parents will all agree that the meeting with their student’s teacher is fun, educational, and thoughtful.
Summer and Fall Enrollment Carolyn and Lauren have spent the month of February calling new students from our waiting list. We are happy to announce that our fall program is full. We will attempt to stagger new students into our program during our summer months. If your child is graduating and would like to stay for some fun summer school sessions, please let us know as soon as possible. Our summer program is also open to new students that do not attend ABC during the regular school year. Once our summer session is over, we will not be accepting any new students for fall. The children continuing on at ABC will have the opportunity to make new friends as our eager new students begin in June, July, or August. Our last day of summer school will be Thursday, August 18th. We will be closed Friday, August 19th, for our annual teacher work day. This is always a fun day where the staff gets to spend quality time planning, preparing, and creating a new environment for the upcoming fall session. School will reopen on Monday, August 22nd for the new school year. Fridge Food Container ABC has always provided a container above the cubbies for placing lunch items in. If you would like your child’s meal heated or refrigerated, please leave that portion of the lunch in the white container with your child’s name on it. We will prepare these items and give them back to your child at lunch time. It is easier for the staff to know what lunch items are to be specially prepared before lunch boxes are opened, so please use this container above the cubbies for this purpose. Thank you!
Annual ABC Picnic The annual ABC picnic is typically on a weekend in May. This outing is a great place to meet parents, your children’s friends, and create new friendships of your own. The ABC staff does not attend this event. There will be a parent committee meeting on Wednesday, April 6th to discuss picnic locations and the upcoming Pre-K Graduation Ceremony. The parent meeting will begin at 5:30pm in the front room of the school and end before 6:00pm. Emily and Bernadette will be watching the children in the back room. You are welcome to bring your child/children, if you would like to participate in this meeting.
Winter Illness and Warm Clothing Many of the ABC children have been experiencing colds, diarrhea, fevers, and more this season. Please make sure to keep all sick children at home until they are fully recovered. We would also like to remind you that we have an hour long recess twice a day. On these very cold days, please make sure that your child is sent to school in warm clothing. Some children have complained about being too cold and are sent into the school to borrow clothing. If it is too cold, or too hot, we also cut the recess short so that the children are not over exposed to the elements. Head Lice It has been brought to our attention that the Ross Valley School District is experiencing an outbreak of head lice. Please be aware of this and check your child’s hair regularly. ABC had one case last week and we are taking all necessary precautions. Thank you!
