Dear Parents, February was filled with hearts, flowers, laughter, and fun projects. We learned about Presidents, Dental Heath, and Love! It doesn’t get much better than that. We appreciated the sunshine, and stayed warm and cozy inside during the many rain showers. Thank you so much for all the Valentine donations. When the children’s goody bags were taken home, they were brimming with fun Valentines, stickers, toys, and treats. Each year our parent base is so generous, and the staff and children all appreciate your continued thoughtfulness and support. This month we will be learning about the Rainforest, our Local Wildlife, Saint Patrick’s Day, Spring, and Baby Animals. We have a lot to accomplish this month, but our incredible staff will educate, entertain, and enthrall the students with knowledge about each of our upcoming units. Our February Units Are: March 1-5 Rainforest March 8-12 Local Wildlife March 15-19 St. Patrick’s Day March 22-26 Spring March 29-April 2 Easter (Easter Bags and Egg Hunts)

Pre-K Conferences The Pre-K Conference sign-up sheets are posted above the cubbies. If you have not already signed up for your conference, please do so as soon as possible. The conferences take about 30 minutes and are always an enjoyable experience. Lauren N. and Rachel have been spending quality time preparing for your meeting, so please make sure you are available for this informative meeting.
New Rates in June As you know, ABC did not raise rates in January because of the dire economic situation. We will be raising our rates as of June 1, 2010. Below is a breakdown of the new rates. Anything before 9:00 am is $8.00 an hour. Anything after 5:30pm is $8.00 an hour. If you attend ABC during our morning program and stay after 1:00, the overtime rate will remain the same at $8.00 per hour. If you need to add an extra day to your schedule, it will be billed at $16.00 per hour for our morning and afternoon sessions. Our afternoon rate has not increased in seven years. We are trying to make our rate increase as painless as possible. I hope this 5% increase does not cause a burden for your family.

Carolyn and Lauren S. have spent the month of February calling new students from our waiting list. We are happy to announce that our fall program is full. We will attempt to stagger new students into our program during our summer months. If your child is graduating and would like to stay for some fun summer school sessions, please let us know. Our summer program is also open to new students that don’t attend ABC during the regular school year. Once our summer session is over, we will not be accepting any new students for fall. The children continuing on at ABC will have the opportunity to make new friends as our eager new students begin in June, July, or August. Our last day of summer school will be August 19th. We will be closed Friday, August 20th, for our annual teacher work day. This is always a fun day where the staff gets to spend quality time planning, preparing, and creating a new environment for the upcoming fall session. School will reopen on Monday, August 23rd for a new school year.
Annual ABC Picnic Each year ABC reserves a spot in a local park for the ABC families to meet, gather and enjoy a fun filled day with other preschool children. We usually have this picnic during the month of May. Our insurance company has informed me that when I reserve a spot at a local park for the school’s enjoyment, ABC Academy becomes 100% responsible for anything and everything that may happen during this outing. Remember when times were sweeter and we didn’t even have to think about this stuff??? The ABC picnics typically take place on a weekend, so I would like to invite our parent base to participate, I just cannot reserve a section at a park. I am sure that if there is enough interest, parents can secure a nice spot at one of our local parks and the fun can still ensue. The ABC picnic does not include the ABC staff. This outing is a great place to meet parents, your children’s friends, and create new friendships of your own.
Parent Committee Meeting There will be a parent committee meeting on Wednesday, March 23rd to discuss picnic locations and the upcoming Pre-K Graduation Ceremony. The parent meeting will begin at 5:30pm in the front room of the school and end before 6:00pm. Lauren N. and Bernadette will be watching the preschool children in the back room. You are welcome to bring your child/children, if you would like to participate in this meeting.
On Thursday, April 1st and Friday, April 2nd, we will have an Easter Egg Hunt at ABC during our recess hour. The children will be making bags, and decorating eggs for this fun event. Please donate hard boiled eggs to ABC by March 29th so that we can dye them with the children. If you would like to donate treats and goodies for their bags and baskets, we would appreciate it. We are expecting the Easter Bunny to visit ABC on both days so that the children can meet with him. Last year they were so excited about having the Easter Bunny attend their egg hunt. Please remember to take home all goody bags before our three day weekend.
I have never used my newsletter to advertise, but I am making an exception this month. Lauren S. is looking for a part-time nanny for her 3 ½ month-old daughter Lily. If you know of anyone that fits that bill, please call us in the office at 499-7711.
