Although we were excited to start our new school year at ABC, we didn’t anticipate so much rainfall. You know you have a wonderful staff when the children can’t go outside for weeks at a time and they are still happy coming to school! Although it can be challenging when we are forced to stay indoors so much, we are rising to the occasion and hoping for some sunny days this month. Last month the children learned about our solar system, Martin Luther King, Jr. and what a “new year” means. They did some amazing art projects with each one of these units, so I hope you are taking them home at the end of the day. Please also remember to take home their work folders from small group. The children are so proud of their accomplishments and want to share them with you.
Our February Units Are: February 1-5 Chinese New Year (Tiger) and Groundhog Day February 8-12 Valentine’s Day February 15-19 Presidents’ Day February 22-26 Dental Health
Important Dates to Remember: February 11 & 12 Valentine’s Party February 15 ABC Closed for Lincoln’s Birthday February 19 ABC Closed for Washington’s Birthday February 22 Book Orders Due
Summer and Fall Schedules Thank you for getting your new schedule forms back to me for the upcoming summer and fall school year. I will be calling families on our waiting list this month to enroll new students. All families currently enrolled at ABC that have siblings on the wait list will be receiving a call from me about what preferred schedules they desire. I am happy to report that all students that returned their forms on time will receive their first choice schedule. Summer school begins June 14th and ends August 19th. If your child will be changing their schedule during our summer months, please remember that you must sign-up for at least two days per month. We have so many children graduating this year, that we will be enrolling many new students. For children not in our Pre-K program, they will have the opportunity this summer to meet many new friends. The cycle of learning just keeps spinning at ABC. Although it is difficult to watch our graduates go on to Kindergarten, it is always fun to meet the new students.
Valentine’s Parties This year we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on both Thursday, February 11th and Friday, February 12th. This is such a fun holiday to celebrate because the children get to have a Valentine Party, distribute their Valentines, and receive a goody bag to take home at the end of the day. Over the years we have perfected our Valentine’s system and have noticed that the day goes smoothly if we follow the following format: 1. Please begin bringing in your Valentine cards to school Monday, February 8th. We will have two baskets up by the cubbies for you to place your cards in. Do not put your child’s Valentine cards into the cubbies! 2. Please bring at least 45 Valentines to ABC. Have your child write their name on the back of each card (you can help them with this process if necessary). Put your Valentines in a bag or box with your child’s name on the outside. 3. Do not label the Valentine envelopes with a student’s name. Each child will have the opportunity to place one of their signed Valentines into each student’s bag. Treats and goodies are fine to bring and will be placed in each Valentine bag as well. At the end of both party days, your child will have a sealed Valentine bag with their name on the front. Please take these goody bags home for their enjoyment.
Parking I know that parking at ABC can be difficult. We have tried so many solutions with the town of San Anselmo only to be frustrated with tickets and warnings. Since we do have limited parking, please be aware that during drop off and pick up times people may be waiting for your parking spot. I have had several parents complain that people in our driveway will pick up children and then stand and talk with other parents while someone else is trying to park. I know we do not have any real solutions to this problem, but if you could be considerate of those still waiting to pick children up, I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any suggestions, I am all ears!
Nut Allergies As you know, last month ABC became a peanut and nut free zone. Although we have not had this policy in our thirty years of business, it has become apparent that this is the right course to take. The public and private schools in Marin are for the most part peanut and nut free zones. It is time that ABC joined their ranks. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause your family, but with such severe allergies in children now, we must commit to this new doctrine. Thank you for understanding and helping us with this delicate matter.
Pre-K Conferences This year we will have at least 30 graduating students at ABC. Lauren N. and Rachel are currently testing their small group children with our Kindergarten Assessment Test. Once the Pre-K children have all finished testing, the conferences will begin. Please look for the conference sign-up sheet above the cubbies soon. Conferences will begin on March 2nd. Each conference will take about thirty minutes. Hopefully both parents are able to attend this informative and fun meeting.
Snack Calendar ABC has always been on the honor system as far as our snack calendars are concerned. The staff has recently pointed out to me that although parents are great about signing up to bring a snack to school, they are tending to forget to bring the snack in more and more often. With seventy families using ABC, it is only necessary to bring snack to school three or four times per year. If each family participated, it would work out well for everyone. Can you please remember to sign up and bring snacks to ABC for our morning and afternoon sessions. We would greatly appreciate your kindness!
