December Calendar

How did the end of the year arrive so suddenly? It is hard to believe December is upon us, especially since we are having such incredible weather. However, we have a lot of activities and fun projects planned for this month, so I hope it unfolds slowly so that we are able to get everything done!

The children loved the Thanksgiving Feast that you provided for them. We had a bountiful meal with leftovers available and the children ate more this year than in years past. It was delicious, and we are so thankful for your generous contributions to our feast. The children were adorable in their pilgrim hats and Native American feathered headbands. The perfect environment was created for giving thanks and they all seemed happy, thankful, and full.

Each year we hope to have volunteers to come and speak with the children about their holiday traditions. If you are willing to share some traditional food, games, or information, we would love for you to come and lead a circle with the children so that they may learn more about holiday customs.

Thank you for filling one food barrel. We still have a few weeks to fill one more before the Marin Food Bank comes to pick it up. Please give as much as you are able. It is so appreciated by those in need. Thank you.

Pre-K Winter Holiday Concert

On Tuesday, December 8th, Lauren N. and Rachel will be accompanying the Lions and Rabbits to the Marin Civic Center for a Youth in Arts Holiday Presentation. The children will watch performers sing and dance.  All Pre-K children that come to school on Tuesdays should purchase their ticket from Rachel for $8.50. We have already paid for this performance. We will need field trip drivers for this event, so please see Rachel for driving forms and information. This performance begins at 11:00am. Please have your child to ABC by 10:00am with a car seat. Children will be paired up with field trip drivers, and we will be leaving ABC at 10:15am. Thank you for your help with this field trip!

                                                                        Annual Holiday Party

Once again we will be celebrating our Holiday Party at the Sleepy Hollow Clubhouse located at 1317 Butterfield Road in San Anselmo. This year the party will be held on Sunday, December 13th. We have rented the facility from 4:00 until 7:00pm. The party will begin at 5:00pm and end promptly at 7:00pm. There will be a donation box placed next to the ABC sign-in sheet. Please contribute $10.00 per family so that we can offset our rental expense. Thanks!

This is a potluck affair, so keep your eye out for our sign-up sheet posted above the cubbies. Each year we have as many as two hundred people attending this event, so please keep that in mind when you are preparing your food item. One year we did run out of food before everyone had a chance to eat, so large portions are encouraged!

There will be an entire table dedicated to beverages. The children are always excited at this event, and they tend to get very thirsty, so we will have a sign-up sheet for water and juice as well. Wine and beer can also be brought to the party.

We will need parents to help with the set-up and break down of the banquet room. We have to put up enough tables and chairs for all that attend this event. The set-up can take an hour, so we will need parents to come and help with this at 4:00. Please look for a sign-up sheet for helping us set up. The party begins at 5:00 and there is always so much to do, so if you can arrive early and help with the setting up of the room, it will be greatly appreciated!

There will be an arts and crafts table for the children. Please accompany your child to this project table if you want to participate in making a special craft with your child.

It is important that we begin cleaning up at 6:30pm, as we have rented the clubhouse for three hours. Before we leave we need to return it to the same condition in which we found it. This party is always fun, so mark your calendars now!

Please look for Jamaica’s table at our party. She will be selling award winning books, puzzles, puppets and more during this event. Please see the flyer attached to this newsletter.

Kindergarten Orientations

The Ross Valley School District will be conducting their Kindergarten Orientations during the month of January. If your child will be attending Manor School, the orientation will be on Tuesday, January 12th at 7:00pm. Brookside’s orientation will be held on Wednesday, January 13th at 6:30pm and the Wade Thomas orientation will be on Wednesday, January 20th at 7:00pm. Make sure you attend these school events so that you can get your packet and all the information you will need for your Kindergarten student next year.

January Schedule Change Forms

In January we will hand out our schedule change forms for the summer months and for the following school year. Please be thinking about what schedule you may want for next year. We have thirty Pre-K children graduating in June. If your child is graduating and plans to attend our summer program, please let us know on your form.

Once the forms are returned to me, I will begin calling families on the wait list for slot spaces next year. We have over a year wait to attend ABC, so schedule changes are important for our existing families. There will be more information in your January newsletter about this.

                      Label Clothing

Now that winter is here, more coats and jackets will be coming to school. As you know, the children are outside at least an hour each day. It is this time of year that coats and sweaters can disappear if not labeled. Please take the time to put names on your jackets and sweaters so that you will be less likely to lose items brought to ABC. Many times someone other than a parent will pick-up a child and not know what coat they came to school with.           We appreciate your help with this matter.

                                                            Lauren S's New Baby Lily

Our little Lily was born on November 10th. She has already gained one pound and grown an inch. Lauren and her husband AJ are thrilled with their new family member. We all miss Lauren so much, but we look forward to seeing her back at ABC in January. Lily is gorgeous, calm, and a very happy baby. Thank you to all the parents that have sent their love and good wishes to Lauren. She can’t wait to come back to ABC!!!
